Telegram’s latest update let’s you move chat history from whatsapp, Line, KakaoTalk and other Social Networking Apps

With over 100 million new users that joined Telegram this January, seeking more privacy and freedom. How about the messages and memories that remained in the older apps they were using?

Starting on 29th, January 2021, everyone can now bring their chat history – including videos and documents – to Telegram from apps like WhatsAppLine, and KakaoTalk. This works both for individual chats and groups:

To move a chat from WhatsApp on iOS, open the Contact Info or Group Info page in WhatsApp, tap Export Chat, then choose Telegram in the Share menu.

On Android, open a WhatsApp chat, tap ⋮ > More > Export Chat, then choose Telegram in the Share menu:

WhatsApp for iOS also lets you export chats directly from the chat list. Swipe left on a chat, then choose ‘…’ > Export Chat.

Messages will be imported into the current day but will also include their original timestamps. All members of the chat on Telegram will see the messages.

Other additions in Telegram v7.4.0 include more chat deletion options with options to remove chats and calls for both sides as well as delete groups for all participating members. Voice Chats now get the ability to adjust volume levels individually for all participants and you can also fast forward and rewind music playback speed within the built-in audio player.

Other Android-specific additions include new animations and greeting stickers. There’s also the option to report fake channels and groups that are impersonating celebrities or organizations. There are also improvements for accessibility users with TalkBack and VoiceOver.
